Private and Public Projects

In Synthesis repositories, there are two types of projects that you can create: a public or a private project. In a non-secure database, both types of projects are accessible to any user who has access to the database. In a secure database, a private project is accessible only to the project owner and to users with the “Manage all projects” permission. No other user can view or edit the project. On the other hand, public projects may be accessible to any user who has access to the database (depending on the security settings that have been implemented).

The following sections describe how to set the public or private status of a project.

New Projects

If you have the "Create and own private projects" permission, the Make Private check box will be displayed in the Project Properties window whenever you create a new project, as shown next. If you select the option, the project will be created under the Private heading of the Project Manager. If you clear the option, the project will be created under the Public heading.

Existing Projects

To change the private status of an existing project, select the project in the Project Manager and choose Project > Security > Make Public.

To change the public status of an existing project, select the project in the Project Manager and choose Project > Security > Make Private.

Tip: If you have the "Manage all projects" permission, you can select multiple projects and change their private/public status all at the same time via the Manage Projects window.
